History

I originally established Arucadi Enterprises primarily as an imprint for self-publishing my own books. I am Elenora Sabin, and, writing as E. Rose Sabin, am an author of fantasy and science fiction novels. My first three novels were published by Tor Publishing, and I also had novels published by two different small presses. I decided to go to independent publishing in order to have greater control over such things as appearance of interior text, cover art, type of publicity, etc. Using Amazon's CreateSpace and Kindle Direct Publishing, I self-published several books, learning the process as I went along through trial and error and generous use of the helpful support people those services provide. As I got better at the process, friends often asked me for advice, and I gave it willingly. I soon realized that there was a great need for a service that could give just a gentle shove in the right direction or could guide an author through the self-publishing process from start to finish. So I launched Arucadi Enterprises to furnish as much or as little help as needed.

When I was published by Tor (Tom Doherty Associates, LLC), I had a marvelous editor and I also had a publicity director. I didn't have to worry about anything. Life was good. But publishing has changed dramatically since that time, and my experience with small presses left me dissatisfied. Today everything happens on-line, and anyone who writes can easily get his or her work published without the assistance of a commercial publisher. Competition, however, is fierce, and to compete in a crowded marketplace, an author must present work that is appealing in appearance, well-written, and professional in its presentation.

It has become more and more difficult to secure an agent and to get a contract from a commercial publisher. That is not to say it's impossible. But it is essential to know the markets, and to present a clean, correctly formatted manuscript as free as possible from spelling and grammatical errors. Yes, being able to tell a good story still matters, as it always has, but presentation may determine whether or not an agent or editor will read that story and discover how good it is.

I intend to continue publishing my own books using my Arucadi Enterprises Imprint.
Author, whether you intend to send that blockbuster novel off to agents and publishers or decide to go the indy route, if you can benefit from the editing and/or formatting service, I invite you to contact me, and in a free consultation we can talk about your project and determine whether I can offer you the type of help you need at a reasonable price.

What is "Arucadi"?

Why "Enterprises"?

Picture

When I decided to launch my own book imprint, I decided to call it Arucadi because that is the name of the fictional country that provides the setting for a novel series for which I have written several volumes and intend to write several more.

I use the drawing of Tirbat, the seven-tiered capital city of the nation of Arucadi, as my logo. It appears on the title page of my own books but would not be used on any book I edited or formatted.

The name Arucadi derives from the source I used to develop a map of my fictional nation. Not being a cartographer or having artistic talent, I traced portions of actual maps to get the map I wanted. The maps I traced were parts of Australia, Russia, and Canada--thus, Arucadi.

I plan as one means of promoting my books to offer  for sale or as gifts various items that relate to the books. These items may vary from such things as bookmarks and postcards commonly used to promote books to jewelry, art work, and even playing cards. Some will be items I design myself; others will be materials developed in cooperation with and using the talents of other artists.

The distribution of these items, whether as gifts or by sales, is of course, a personal project. As I explained above, I originally established Arucadi Enterprises as a means of publishing and promoting my own work. But writing and editing are separate enterprises, and formatting, although related, involves separate skills. Thus, my business does consist of various services, or enterprises.
